Lower Pogues Run Tunnel

Location of Project: Indianapolis, IN

Services Provided:  Topographic, Aerial, Location Control Route Survey and R/W Engineering.

Size of Project: The total project length is approximately 11,400 feet.

Description of Project: The Owner is implementing a Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) to address combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in the City of Indianapolis. Included in the plan are provisions for a series of consolidation sewers, drop shafts, and a tunnel to capture 97 percent (average of two overflows per year) and 95 percent (average of four overflows per year) of CSOs along Fall Creek and White River, respectively. The Lower Pogues Run Tunnel (LPgRT) System Project includes a CSO storage and conveyance deep bedrock tunnel that will store CSOs during rainfall events, and connect into the White River Tunnel (WRT) System. After a storm event, the tunnel will be dewatered using a deep tunnel pump station that is planned to be constructed at the Southport Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWTP).
